New Garage Beardmore Patrol Yard

New Garage Beardmore Patrol Yard

Description

JML Engineering as part of a Design-Build were awarded the design of a new 9000 square foot Garage at the MTO Patrol Yard in Beardmore, Ontario for snow plow maintenance.

The new Garage featured 20 ft clear garaged doors and contained 6 bays, an office area, lunch room area, lockers, showers and a wash bay. The building consisted of pre-engineered trusses, timber framing, on a reinforced concrete foundation and engineered fill. Lateral loads were resisted by a combination of timber and masonry shear walls. Due to availability and costing of dimensional lumber at time of construction built-up wood studs were used.

Site services for this project consisted of a well, septic field and a leaching bed for the wash bay. A large oil/water/grit separator was used at this site.

Mechanical and electrical requirements were outlined in the Request for Tender Specifications and required minimum ambient temperatures and minimum lighting levels in the shop area.

JML Engineering was the Prime Consultant on this project and completed the structural design, site services design and preparation of a site plan to ensure easy access to the garage. Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was completed by a sub-consultant and their designs were incorporated into the overall building design. During construction JML Engineering completed site inspections certifying the foundation excavation, reinforcing steel and certification of the building structure.
